Aqiqah is a form of celebration in which one expresses thanks to Allah for the gift of a new life. It is carried out in accordance with the Prophet Muhammad's (ﷺ) sunnah. It is usually carried out on the seventh day following the baby's birth but you can also do it later.
It is encouraged of us Muslims to commemorate this journey in the same manner as our Prophet (ﷺ)
Two animals are sacrificed for a baby boy. However one animal is sacrificed for a baby girl for muslim aqiqah.
The family members executing the aqeeqah then share the meat among themselves. Some portion may also be shared or donated to the community whom are in need for aqiqah islam. A gathering is usually planned for family and friends to celebrate and share the meat.
